Bradenton Marauders News Release
Bradenton, Fla. - The Florida State League has recognized 2014 Marauders outfielder Josh Bell and starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow with the highest honors available to each. Bell has been named the Florida State League Player of the Year, while Glasnow has been recognized as the Pitcher of the Year. Additionally, Marauders Manager Tom Prince was recognized as one of the top three Managers in the League.
Glasnow is 12-5 for the season, standing second in the league in wins. He is pacing the league in ERA (1.67) and his 148 strikeouts are second in the league and have set a new high mark for a Marauders pitcher in a single season. Since his season debut on April 25, Glasnow leads all minor league pitchers in strikeouts. Opposing batters are hitting just .167 with two home runs against the right hander. Glasnow, who turned 21 years old on Saturday, is a native of Newhall, California. The 2014 season is his third in professional baseball.
The Florida State League recognized Glasnow as the Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks this month. He is the only Marauder to ever earn weekly league honors in consecutive weeks.
Bell was promoted to Double-A Altoona in July, but left his mark on the Marauders in 84 games with the team. Bell led the league in hitting, recording a .335 batting average. He hit nine home runs and drove in 53 runs while scoring 45. The 22-year-old switch hitter posted the longest hitting streak by a Marauder this season, hitting safely in 14 straight games. Bell resides in Irving, Texas. The 2014 season is his third in professional baseball.
The Florida State League recognized Bell as the Player of the Week in June. He was selected as a Mid-Season All-Star and started for the South Division in the 2014 Florida State League All-Star Game at McKechnie Field in Bradenton. Bell was the only Pirates minor league player selected for the prestigious Futures Game, where he suited up for the U.S. team.
Prince is in his first season at the helm of the Marauders. The team is guaranteed to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2011. Additionally, the team will finish with a winning record in both halves of the Florida State League's split-half schedule. A second half South Division Championship would send the Marauders to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
