BRADENTON, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, split a doubleheader with the Palm Beach Cardinals Wednesday, remaining two games up on the Cards in the Florida State League South.

The Marauders won the first game, a continuation of last night's suspended game and a nine inning affair. Leading 1-1 when the game restarted in the third Bradenton immediately struck for a run to go up 2-1. Ramon Cabrera doubled home Robbie Grossman, hit by a pitch two batters prior.

Palm Beach recovered to score twice in the fifth and go ahead 3-2, before Grossman tied it with a homerun, his 13th, in the bottom of the frame. Bradenton then launched an eight-spot in the sixth to seal the game. The frame was highlighted by a two-run single by Elevys Gonzalez, one of six hits in the inning. Adalberto Santos also drove in a run with a walk and Bengie Gonzalez with a single.

Major League rehabber Evan Meek pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the game, while Brian Leach picked up the win, his third.

The second game saw the Marauders falter, dropping 7-4 score. Palm Beach scored a deadly five runs in the second inning, capitalizing on two Marauders defensive miscues, both by first baseman Cole White. But Bradenton stormed back within a run, drawing to 5-4 with a three-run third. That inning was kept alive by Palm Beach's own defensive errors - one to let Santos on base and one, though not officially an error, that cost the Cardinals a double play. Santos scored on the botched twin-kill.

Palm Beach came back to add insurance in the seventh, however, scoring two runs on a Rainel Rosario triple to take the final 7-4 lead.

The Marauders and Cardinals close their series Thursday at 7pm with a 6:45 start on the Marauders On Deck Show on 1280-AM WTMY, the Sports Fanatic. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit BradentonMarauders.com.
