FORT MYERS, FL (August 24th, 2011) - The Fort Myers Miracle and the St. Lucie Mets split a twin bill at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday night with the Miracle taking the early game, 3-0, and falling 4-3 in second game.

In game one, B.J. Hermsen shut down the Mets lineup with six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three while facing just two over the minimum. Hermsen (2-0) has now picked up a win in consecutive starts and has allowed just one earned run in his last 10 innings.

The Miracle capitalized on Mets miscues to score three unearned runs in the first two innings. The first inning yielded a pair of runs on one play that featured two St. Lucie errors.

After leadoff singles from Aaron Hicks and James Beresford, Mets starter Darin Gorski struck out Josmil Pinto and induced a force out from Oswaldo Arcia. With two out and runners on the corners, Arcia attempted to steal second. St. Lucie catcher Francisco Pena missed the target of second baseman Rylan Sandoval and Hicks scored from third.

While shortstop Wilmer Flores was chasing down the loose ball, Arcia scampered to third base. Flores threw wild to third in an effort to gun down Arcia and the Miracle baserunner was awarded home plate after the ball trickled into the Fort Myers dugout.

Fort Myers added an insurance run in the second inning on another fielding mistake from St. Lucie. With two outs and a runner at first, Jamaal Hawkins sent a deep fly to left field that Gilbert Gomez dropped and Anderson Hidalgo hustled around the bases to score.

Matt Hauser delivered a scoreless seventh inning for his sixth save. The Newport Beach, Calif. native gave up two hits, but struck out the side to secure the 3-0 victory.

Gorski (11-3) lost for the Mets, but yielded just three unearned runs in six innings.

In game two, Dock Doyle smashed a three-run homer off of Miracle starter Edgar Ibarra in the second inning. The Mets added another run in the second on a wild pitch and held a 4-0 lead until the fifth.

Anderson Hidalgo drove in his 39th run of the season on a fielder's choice in the fifth and Josmil Pinto cranked his fifth homer in the sixth inning to draw to within a run.

Mets closer Joshua Edgin nailed down the seventh inning for his ninth save and securing a split for the day. St. Luce starter Kyle Allen (6-9) went five innings and gave up a run on four hits. Ibarra (3-10) lasted just two innings with four runs given up, but only two were earned.

The Miracle (56-70, 22-34) wrap up the series with the Mets (67-60, 29-28) on Thursday at Hammond Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Listen to every line drive at www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Alex Margulies and Brice Zimmerman.
