Marauders Rout Manatees in Series Opener

VIERA, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, opened a four game series with the Brevard County Manatees with a bang Friday, thrashing the opponent for a 10-2 win.

The damage began quickly with Robbie Grossman launching the fifth pitch of the game over the rightfield fence for a 1-0 lead. Bradenton victimized starter Nicholas Bucci twice more in the first with RBI singles from Evan Chambers and Elevys Gonzalez for a 3-0 lead.

The game calmed considerably until the seventh inning when Bradenton tagged reliever Efrain Nieves for five runs. The Marauders sent nine runners to the plate with the first five singling. All of them scored - Bengie Gonzalez, Grossman, Adalberto Santos, Ramon Cabrera and Aaron Baker. Chambers delivered a sacrifice fly, Elevys Gonzalez a double and Kelson Brown an RBI groundout as well. The M's lead grew to 8-0.

Brevard County got a run in the bottom of the seventh but Bradenton got it right back and more in the top of the eighth off reliever Rolando Pasqual. With one out, five consecutive batters reached, two scoring on a Baker single and bases loaded walk to Chambers. It was 10-1 after the final attack, the final score.

Chambers finished the game with three RBI while Grossman scored three runs, raising his MiLB leading total to 98. He also walked twice, bringing his MiLB leading total to 93.

On the mound Brett Lorin dominated. The Bradenton starter fired six shutout frames. He allowed three hits and retired the last 15 batters to face him after loading the bases, but avoiding damage in the first.

Bradenton advances to 20- 16 on the second half, with Brevard County falling to 16-17. The teams meet again Saturday at 7:05 on 1280-AM WTMY. Radio coverage begins from Space Coast Field at 6:50. For more information visit BradentonMarauders.com.
