Miracle Blanked by Flying Tigers in Series Opener

FORT MYERS, FL - The Lakeland Flying Tigers powered over the Fort Myers Miracle, 11-0, to begin a four game series at Hammond Stadium on Friday Night. Lakeland outhit the Miracle 19-4.

Flying Tigers Tony Plagman and Jordan Lennerton each hit two-run homers in the first and third innings respectively. Plagman blasted a 2-2 pitch from Miracle starter Tom Stuifbergen over the right field wall for his 16th homerun of the season. Lennerton followed two innings later with an opposite field bomb over the fence in left.

Stuifbergen was roughed up for three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Lakeland put together five hits including a pair of RBI singles from Wade Gaynor and Corey Jones while Rob Brantly added a sacrifice fly to plate a run.

Flying Tiger starter Jared Wesson (11-8) went six scoreless with only three hits against, two walks, and four strikeouts. Stuifbergen (4-7) gave up seven runs on 10 hits with a walk and fanning two.

The Miracle (48-57, 14-21) host the Flying Tigers (50-53, 14-19) for game two of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Fort Myers will participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark featuring a memorabilia auction for charity.
