Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals built a 4-0 lead through seven innings, but couldn't fend off the Bradenton Marauders on Friday night, falling 7-4 in the Independence Day game at Roger Dean Stadium. It was only the second home loss for the Cardinals since May 25. Palm Beach is 12-2 at Roger Dean Stadium during the span.

Mason Katz clubbed his second home run in four days - a two-run monster shot to left field in the second inning to give Palm Beach the early 2-0 advantage. Anthony Garcia led off the frame with a line drive single and scored on the Katz blast.

Dante Rosenberg reached base on a catcher's interference call and also scored in the second on another Marauder error to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Cardinals (11-5, 47-38) struck again in the third. Luke Voit singled to start the inning and completed the round trip home when Nick Martini scorched a double to the gap in left-center field.

Voit finished the game 3-for-4 and Charlie Tilson also chipped in a multi-hit game for the Cardinals, going 2-for-4 at the dish. Tilson has turned in a multi-hit performance in four of the team's last five games and 11 since the FSL All-Star break.

After jumping out to the 4-0 lead after three innings, the Palm Beach offense stalled, keeping Bradenton within striking distance until the end. The Marauders scored three runs off Thomas Lee in the eighth and four more runs off Kevin Alexander in the ninth to take the lead 7-4.

Adam Frazier went 3-for-5 with four RBI in the game to pace the Marauders at the plate. He hit a two-run single in the eighth and a two-run double in the ninth to lead the comeback charge.

In his first start in over a year, Corey Baker was terrific on the mound for the Cardinals. He surrendered just two hits over five scoreless innings, walked none and struck out three. Kyle Barraclough chipped in two shutout frames out of the bullpen to keep the Cardinals on top into the eighth.

Alexander (0-1), who just joined the team from the Gulf Coast League on Friday, took the loss for the Birds.

The two teams will play game two of the three-game series on Saturday night. RH Tyrell Jenkins (2-1, 2.57) will start for Palm Beach against RH Tyler Glasnow (4-3, 1.70) for Bradenton. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
