BRADENTON, Fla. - A close game slipped away from the Marauders in the fourth inning Friday night in a 6-2 loss to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels at LECOM Park.

Pirates 2021 second-round draftee, Anthony Solometo, made the start for the Marauders (19-24) in his professional debut. The left-hander allowed two runs, both unearned, and struck out three batters in three innings and left with the score tied, 2-2.

Fort Myers (29-13) scored first for the fourth consecutive night. In the first inning, a leadoff walk issued to Jake Rucker set the stage for a stolen base and a two-out fielding error by third baseman Jase Bowen, plating the game's first run. The Mighty Mussels stole four bases off Solometo in a 32-pitch first inning, and Noah Cardenas added an RBI-single for a 2-0 Fort Myers lead.

The Marauders struck back in the bottom of the first, when Sergio Campana drew a leadoff walk from Marco Raya (3-1), took second base on an error, stole third, and scored on a Bowen fielder's choice grounder. Mike Jarvis tied the score at 2-2 for Bradenton in the second with a solo home run to left, his first homer of the season.

Solometo recovered from his lengthy first inning by tossing a scoreless second, striking out two and maneuvering around a single and an errant pickoff throw. In the third, Solometo helped erase a leadoff double by catching Luis Baez off second base in an early steal, and the southpaw recorded his final two outs via a groundout and a fielder's choice.

But right-hander Carlos Jimenez (1-3) took over to start the fourth for the Marauders and struggled. Jimenez allowed a single, a hit-by-pitch, and a Daniel Ozoria go-ahead RBI-double, then saw a passed ball by catcher Wyatt Hendrie score another run before a RBI-fielder's choice grounder by Baez moved the Mussels' lead to 5-2.

Jimenez would pitch a total of four innings, matching his career-high with nine strikeouts but taking the loss after allowing four runs on four hits and a walk and throwing 82 total pitches. A Keoni Cavaco RBI-double capped the Mighty Mussels' scoring for the evening.

The Fort Myers pitching staff, meanwhile, stymied the Marauders. After Jarvis' home run in the second, Bradenton managed just three scattered hits. Raya went on to record seven strikeouts in five innings, and relievers John Wilson, Hunter McMahon, Malik Barrington, and Matthew Swain each pitched one scoreless inning in relief and held the Marauders hitless from the sixth inning onward.

The loss was the Marauders' fourth straight and assured the Mighty Mussels of a series victory.

The series continues Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at LECOM Park. RHP Justin Meis (3-3, 3.30 ERA) will start for the Marauders, while the Mighty Mussels have yet to announce their starting pitcher.
