Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders (11-9) fell two runs shy of a franchise record as they used four multi-run innings to defeat the Fort Myers Miracle (9-11) 16-2 on Wednesday night. Will Craig supplied five RBIs as part of a 17-hit barrage for Bradenton.
Fort Myers actually took a 1-0 lead in the first with a Zander Wiel double to score Alex Perez. The Wiel double gives him 12 extra-base hits on the season compared to six singles.
In the top of the second, Logan Hill connected for his third home run of the series, this one off of RHP Cody Stashak (L, 0-3). Despite trailing 2-1, it was smooth sailing for Stashak until the fifth, when the Marauders plated five runs on three hits, a walk and an error. After Christian Kelly reached on an error trying to lay down a sac bunt, Casey Hughston doubled to score two followed three batters later by an Alfredo Reyes two-run triple.
The Marauders slammed the door shut with six more runs in the sixth inning. Craig punctuated the inning when, with the bases loaded, he ripped a double to the left field wall scoring all three runs. Bradenton added three extra tallies in the eighth on five slow-rolling singles to mark 16 unanswered runs.
While Bradenton's offense rolled, LHP Taylor Hearn (W, 2-2) rolled through six innings, allowing the one run on four hits to earn the win. Chris Paul also saw his 11-game hit streak 18-game on-base streak come to an end.
These two teams play the rubber match on Thursday night. RHP David Fischer brings his 0.60 ERA to Bradenton to face RHP Gage Hinsz. Fans can enjoy half-price domestic draft beer and fountain soda on a Thirsty Thursday with first pitch at 6:35 PM ET.
