Club Clinches Calder Cup Playoff Position with Win Over the Saint John Flames
The St. John's Maple Leafs announced tonight that the club has recalled forward Robb Palahnuk from the Memphis River Kings (CHL). Palahnuk will be signed to a Professional Try-Out Contract.
The 6'1 winger scored 27 points (9G,18A) and accumulated 102 penalty minutes in 57 games with the River Kings. He has also scored 10 points (7G,3A) in 6 playoffs games. Palahnuk has appeared in 6 games with the Maple Leafs this season scoring 2 points (G,A) and accumulating 20 penalty minutes. He will be available to the hockey club for tomorrow's game against the Saint John Flames.
The Maple Leafs also clinched a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs with a 5-0 win over the Saint John Flames tonight. The club was led by Don MacLean, who scored a goal and added 2 assists. As a result, he has taken over the AHL scoring race with 83 points (31G,52A) and leads Brad Smyth of the Hartford WolfPack and Rob Brown of the Chicago Wolves by three points.
Other goal scorers for the Maple Leafs included Alexei Ponikarovsky (2G), Morgan Warren and Nathan Dempsey. Sebastian Centomo stopped all 38 shots he faced for his second shutout as a Maple Leaf. The Maple Leafs are currently in 9th place in the Eastern Conference with a 32-27-16-2 record (82 points) and have 3 game remaining. The club is chasing the Hamilton Bulldogs (8th place, 82 points, 3 games remaining), Worcester Ice Cats (7th place, 82 points, 4 games remaining), Manitoba Moose (6th place, 83 points, 4 games remaining) and the Manchester Monarchs (5th place, 86 points, 3 games remaining) for playoff positioning.
