Cabana Signed to Moose Contract

Today the Manitoba Moose announced that right winger Paul Cabana (CA-ba-NA) has signed a professional tryout contract with the Moose.

Cabana recently joined the Columbia Inferno of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and accounted for two points (one goal and one assist) in three ECHL games. During the March 29 game, he registered his first pro multi-point game (1G, 1A) against New Orleans. He also had been playing with the Michigan Tech Huskies of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) during the 2001-02 season. The 190 lb. forward potted eight goals and 11 assists with 29 penalty minutes in 37 matches with the Huskies. The 6'1" winger was the team's fourth leading scorer and also fired two game winning goals and one power play tally.

The Calgary, AB native has played with the Huskies for the last four seasons. Last season, Cabana was Tech's third leading scorer. In 35 games, he potted 21 points on 15 goals (eight on the power play) and six assists with 41 PIM. In the 1999-2000 season, he was also third in team scoring with 15 points (10 goals and five assists). In Cabana's rookie collegiate year, he contributed 12 goals and nine assists with 50 penalty minutes. In four seasons, the right winger has notched 76 points in 147 WCHA games.

Cabana, 23, has also seen action in the Alberta Junior Hockey Leagues (AJHL). He played two seasons with Fort McMurray. In 1996-97, he was selected to the AJHL All-Rookie Team when he posted 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists) in 58 games. The following season, the winger was named to AJHL First All-Star team for his 80 point season (48 goals, 32 assists) with 111 PIM in 52 games.

He was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round, 149th overall, during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Cabana will be joining the team in Chicago for tomorrow's match against the Wolves.
