Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - The Kansas City Royals announced two transactions on Friday affecting the Naturals roster. The related details are as follows:
Catcher Manny Pina has been activated from the disabled list. He suffered a right thigh injury when running the bases during a game on June 5th. Well regarded defensively, Pina is having a solid season at the plate as well, batting .265 with four homers and 21 RBI.
Pina has also had a stellar season behind the dish, committing just two passed balls thus far and gunning down 50% (16 of 32) of the baserunners attempting to steal against him. That mark ranks Pina second in the Texas League, behind only Yusuf Carter from the Midland RockHounds. Pina was acquired from the Texas Rangers organization on September 3rd of last season along with Naturals' OF Tim Smith. In a corresponding move, catcher Ben Theriot has been transferred back to Advanced Class-A Wilmington. The Royals' ninth-round selection in last June's draft out of Texas State University, the 22-year old Theriot has appeared in eight games for the Naturals this season and is batting .200 (4-for-20) with an RBI.
After the move, the Naturals' roster remains at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.
The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state of the art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. You can purchase season tickets and group outings with the Naturals by calling (479) 927-4900.
