Manitoba Moose News Release

The Moose played the final four games of a six game home stand against the Texas Stars and Chicago Wolves this past week.

Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016: Manitoba 2 vs. Texas 3

The Moose ran into some tough breaks near the end of regulation in the first match against Texas this season. Holding a 2-1 lead, a second penalty from a puck going over the glass put the Moose down on a five-on-three disadvantage. Texas scored on both powerplays including the last one with just 47 seconds remaining for the win. John Albert and Darren Kramer had the goals for the Moose while Eric Comrie made 30 saves in net.

Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016: Manitoba 6 vs. Texas 7 - SO

Offence was the name of the game on Wednesday in the rematch against the Stars. The Moose held a 3-1 lead before the Stars exploded for five straight goals to hold a 6-3 lead. Manitoba showed great resilience by battling back by scoring three goals to ultimately send the game to a shootout. Nic Petan had a career high three points (2G, 1A) as part of four Moose players with multi-point games.

Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016: Manitoba 2 vs. Chicago 3 - OT

The Moose celebrated their 1996 season by wearing replica jerseys from their inaugural season in Winnipeg. The game was a throwback as well with real physical play. John Albert and Chase De Leo scored and Eric Comrie made 35 saves in the Moose net.

Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016: Manitoba 5 vs. Chicago 2

Playing the Chicago Wolves for the eighth and final time in the regular season, the Moose arguably played their best game against their long-time rivals. Josh Morrissey had a career high four points (1G, 3A) while Connor Hellebuyck returned to the Moose net with a spectacular 39 performance.

Feb. 17 & 19 Feb. 20

The Moose head back on the road this week playing the first three games of a five game road trip. They will meet the Rockford IceHogs for the first time this season. The teams will play the first game at a special 10:30am start in Rockford on Wednesday with a rematch a 7 p.m. on Friday. The Moose will wrap up the week with a game against Milwaukee on Saturday.

JOSH MORRISSEY

Rookie defenceman Josh Morrissey continued his strong play as of late this past week. Morrissey had a big goal against the Texas Stars on Wednesday which got the momentum back on the Moose side to start a three goal comeback rally. The Calgary, AB native had a career high four points with a goal and three assists on Sunday in a big 5-2 win over the Chicago Wolves.

RETURN OF HELLEBUYCK:

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made his return to the Moose lineup at the end of the week when he was re-assigned by the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. In his first game back, Hellebuyck was dominant as he made 39 saves against Chicago for a big Moose win. It was Hellebuyck's first start in the Moose net since Nov. 20. He has a 2.37 goals against average and .929 save percentage in 11 games in the AHL this season.

COMRIE KEEPS ON ROLLING:

Fellow goaltender Eric Comrie has been incredible all season long. He started 30 of Manitoba's 33 games following Hellebuyck's call-up to the Jets. Comrie was named to the AHL All-Star team which was much deserved. The Edmonton, AB native leads all AHL goaltenders in saves with 1,055 and is third in minutes played with 2,075.

PETAN'S SCORING TOUCH:

Rookie forward Nic Petan has been one of the hottest players on the Moose lately. The Delta, BC native scored his fifth goal in the month of February on Sunday. In his six games this month he has recorded five goals and an assist for six points. In his last 11 games, Petan has averaged a point-per-game with six goals and five assists. He continues to lead all Moose players with a 0.73 point per game average this season.

FRONK AT HOME:

Rookie forward Jiri Fronk scored his sixth goal of the season in Sunday's game against Chicago. All six of Fronk's goals have come in the 12 games he has played at the MTS Centre this season. Only teammate Chase De Leo has scored more goals at home this season with nine. Interesting to note that all six of Fronk's goals have come during the third period of games.

LEADING THE WAY:

Moose Captain John Albert has been playing his best hockey of the year recently. He had a five game point streak come to an end on Sunday but during that previous stretch he recorded three goals and two assists.

CORMIER'S APPLES:

Forward Patrice Cormier has been finding the scoresheet a lot lately by setting up his teammates. In his last five games he has five assists including three this past week. He is now one of nine players on the Moose roster to have double-digits in assist totals on the season.
