Manitoba Moose News Release

HOMETOWN RETURN:

The Moose had several roster changes this week. Manitoba started the week by signing forward Kelly Zajac to an AHL contract for the remainder of the season. Zajac returned from playing in Finland after suffering an injury. He will suit up for his hometown Moose when he is ready to go.

PETAN BRINGS OFFENCE:

Highly touted forward Nic Petan joined the Moose this week after being re-assigned by the Winnipeg Jets who wanted to give Petan more playing time. Petan had a good start to his AHL career by recording an assist in his very first game.

LEADING SCORER:

Brenden Kichton posted another two points this past weekend with a goal and an assist. He continues to lead the team in scoring with 10 points (3G, 7A) in 15 games played. He is currently tied for 14th among AHL defencemen in scoring.

TO THE SHOW:

The Moose saw two of their own get the call to the NHL this week. First was goaltender Connor Hellebuyck who was recalled to the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday morning. Hellebuyck has been nothing short of terrific this season for Manitoba. In 10 games this season he has a 2.41 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. Joel Armia became the second Moose player to be called up to the Jets in as many days on Monday. The forward from Finland has seven points (3G, 4A) in 15 games this year with Manitoba.

TULSA CALLING:

The chain reaction of moves also saw Ben Walker be returned to Manitoba's ECHL affiliate the Tulsa Oilers. Walker played in two games with the Moose where he recorded two penalty minutes. With the call-up of Connor Hellebuyck the Moose then recalled goaltender Jussi Olkinuora from Tulsa to fill the void in the crease. Olkinuora has played 15 career games in the AHL over the last three seasons.

GOALIE DEPTH:

With the callup of Hellebuyck, Eric Comrie will be handed more starts in the Moose net and he has earned them. Comrie has won his last two starts and has been excellent all season. Comrie is currently first in the AHL with a .944 save percentage and is second with a 1.77 goals against average. The Edmonton native has not surrendered more than two goals in any one game this year.
