Ontario Reign News Release
The Week That Was...
The Ontario Reign completed a three-game road trip this week with their first-ever trip to Texas to take on the San Antonio Rampage and Texas Stars for a week record of 2-0-0-0 and an overall standing of 10-2-2-0 to become the first team in the Pacific Division to reach 10 wins.
The Reign jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Friday against the Rampage at AT&T Center behind goals from forwards Ryan Horvat, Scott Sabourin and Sean Backman before the Rampage would rally and grab the game-tying marker with 1:36 left in regulation to force overtime. Ontario regrouped in the extra session and buried the game-winning marker 21 seconds in off the stick of forward Michael Mersch.
On Saturday, the Reign and Stars' offense erupted for 13 total goals at Cedar Park Center with the Reign prevailing 7-6. Forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Mersch each scored two goals and Kevin Gravel (two assists), Backman (one goal, one assist), Kurtis MacDermid (one goal, one assist) and Nic Dowd (two assists) each registered multi-point games. The Reign held 2-0, 4-2 and 6-3 leads before the Stars recovered.
