Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, Mich. - With an assist on Braden Haché's first period goal last night in Flint, Spirit forward Calem Mangone became the highest scoring player to be drafted in the U18 Priority Selection. The assist gave Mangone 111 career points (40G, 71A), surpassing former Erie Otters captain Daniel D'Amato.
The Spirit drafted the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. native with the second overall pick in the 2021 U18 Priority Selection after an impressive showing with the Soo Greyhounds Midget AAA squad the season before. In his rookie season with the Spirit, Mangone finished eighth in team scoring with 24 points (13G, 21A) in 37 games during the 2021-2022 campaign. His sophomore campaign saw even more growth, picking up 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points in 67 games.
This season, the now 19-year-old is a top-six fixture on the Spirit roster through the first 27 games (9G-21A-30P). Over 400 players have been selected in the OHL's U18 Priority Selection since its institution in 2017.
Next, Mangone and the Spirit prepare for another meeting with the Flint Firebirds on Thursday, December 14th at the Dow Event Center. For tickets to the sixth installment of this season's Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup series, click here.
