Kitchener Travels to Guelph for Third Installment of the Battle of Highway 7

Guelph, ON - The Kitchener Rangers have picked up five wins over their last seven games collecting at least one point in each game. Today the Rangers will travel to face Guelph to take on the Storm for the third time in 15 days. Puck drop is set for 4 pm at The Sleeman Centre.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This Season:

The Rangers and Storm currently share the season series with one win each. Their first encounter took place on November 25th, when Guelph clinched the victory with an 8-6 final score. In their most recent contest, the Rangers held off the Storm and won 5-2 at The Aud in their Teddy Bear Toss game on December 5th.

Over the Years:

Dating back to the 2018-19 season, the Rangers hold a record of 22-13-1-0 and when playing at The Sleeman Centre they are 10-7-1-0.

Special Teams:

The Rangers' powerplay is currently fourth in the league converting at 29.6% however, when playing on the road the Rangers' powerplay drops to seventh converting at 25%. They also own the fourth-best penalty kill in the league at 83.1%.

The Storm powerplay is currently 10th in the league converting 20.7% and eighth at 21.7% when on home ice. Their penalty kill is fifth overall at an 82.65% success rate.

Last Time Out:

Kitchener concluded a home-and-home series against the Brantford Bulldogs last night with a 5-4 overtime defeat. Noteworthy performances came from Matthew Andonovski and Luca Romano, each securing one goal and one assist. Tanner Lam also had a two-point night contributing an assist on goals from Andonovski and Romano.

Rangers to Watch:

With a goal, Matthew Sop extended his point streak to eight games after Saturday night's match. Over the past eight games, Sop has 15 points with seven goals and eight assists. He is currently placed as the third top point-getter in the league with 50 points (20G, 30A). Through both games against Guelph this season Sop has one goal and three assists for four points.

Hunter Brzustewicz point pace has not shown any signs of slowing down as he has 51 points (7G, 44A). The defenceman extended his point streak to six games on Saturday recording an assist. Brzustewicz has 11 points, one goal, and 10 assists. Against Guelph this season, Brzustewicz has three assists through both games.

Tanner Lam leads the league's true rookies with 20 points, six goals, and 14 assists. On Saturday night Lam grabbed two assists against Brantford for his fifth game this season that he has registered multiple points.

Last Time Out:

The Guelph Storm was in Erie on Saturday night taking on the Otters. The Storm fell for a final score of 4-1. The only Guelph goal was scored by Jake Karabela (Washington Capitals) assisted by Adam Shillinglaw and Jett Luchanko.

Storm to Watch:

Kitchener native Braeden Bowman leads the Storm with 29 points (13G, 16A). In the first game against Kitchener on November 25th Bowman recorded a natural hat trick and added an assist. On December 5th in Kitchener Bowman was good for one assist.

Jett Luchanko has the Storm's second most points with 27 points(10 goals, and 17 assists). This season against the Rangers, Luchanko has one goal and one assist which came on November 25th in Guelph.

Goaltender Brayden Gillespie is currently behind Jackson Parsons for the best goals-against-average at 2.74 and is tied for fifth most wins with 12. Gillespie's save percentage is .908 through his 23 games played.

Sunday's contest against the Guelph Strom will be televised live throughout Kitchener and the Waterloo Region on Rogers TV, cable channel 20, and can be watched across the province of Ontario on the Super Sports Pak on channel 470 for cable subscribers. The game will be streamed live online on OHL Live on CHL TV. Additionally, fans can listen to Sunday's action on the radio on CityNews 570 AM CKGL.
