DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth announced today the free agent signing of forward Jamie Floris. To make room for Floris on the roster, the Mammoth has placed forward Chris Gill on the Injured Reserve list with an ankle injury.

"Jamie is a young, tough guy," said President, General Manager and Head Coach Steve Govett. "This is a great move for a young team that is trying to set itself up for the future."

Floris was selected fourth overall in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Rush. In 13 games played with Edmonton, Floris scored 11 goals and added 10 assists.

"It was a bit upsetting not fitting into Edmonton's plans and I really didn't want to see a whole season pass by when I could be playing," said Floris. "This is a big opportunity for me and I can't wait to prove that I can play at this level."

Floris' last NLL action was in April of 2009, nearly a full year ago.

"Jamie hasn't played all season, so it's a tough spot for him," said Govett. "We are looking to add depth at the right-handed forward position and Jamie is a talented guy who we think can fill that need."

The 6'0", 200-pounder will be looking to help jumpstart a Mammoth offense that currently ranks near the bottom of the league in goals scored.

"I think I can bring energy to the table," said Floris. "I want to bring a physical presence to the offensive end and get opposing defenses off their game a little bit by crashing the net."

The British Columbia resident played his college lacrosse at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and was a member of the team's first four-year senior class to go through the program. He plays for the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the WLA in the summer alongside current Mammoth players Cliff Smith and Ilija and Nenad Gajic.

"Some of the guys on the Mammoth roster are some of the players I am most comfortable playing with," said Floris. "They have an understanding of how I play the game and I understand how they play."

Floris will be eligible to make his Mammoth debut next Saturday night on the road as Colorado takes on the Washington Stealth in Everett.

"The fans in Colorado bring a different energy than I ever saw in another arena," said Floris. "It's a loud crowd that likes to get in players' heads. I'm excited to be wearing the home jersey there this time around."

The Mammoth's next game is Friday, March 26 at 7pm at Pepsi Center as it hosts the West Division-leading Stealth on Blackout Cancer Night. Tickets are on sale now.
