Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth announced today that the team has signed defenseman Dan Coates to a one-year contract, and forward Brandon McMillen to a two-year contract.
Coates, a St. Catharines, Ontario native, was the eighth overall selection in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft. A standout player at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, he completed his senior season leading the Golden Griffins in ground balls (52) and ranked second in caused turnovers (18). Ranked first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) among defenders in 2011, with 4.33 ground balls per game, he was the first defender in school history to earn All-MAAC honors. Coates will relocated to Denver later this month.
"We are very excited about Dan," said Mammoth President & General Manager Steve Govett adding, "He was a first round pick and is a quality defenseman that will make an impact right away."
McMillen, ranked fifth in total points (57) in the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Senior B Division this past season, tallied 25 goals and 32 assists while playing for his hometown Owen Sound Woodsmen. Helping to lead the Woodsmen to a 2011 second-place finish in the Senior B Division, McMillen recorded 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists) during 10 playoff games.
"McMillen will be competing for a face-off position," Govett said.
The Colorado Mammoth opens the 2012 season against the Minnesota Swarm on "Brian Langtry Night" on Saturday, January 14th at 7pm MST on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center. Season seats are on sale now and start at just $72. Reserve your seats today at ColoradoMammoth.com or by calling 303.405.1101.
