Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth, off to its best start in franchise history (6-0), will face off against the Calgary Roughnecks (4-2) tonight at 7pm on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center. Friday's match-up pits the top two teams in the West Division - Colorado sits alone in first place, followed by Calgary in second. With a two-game lead over the Roughnecks, the Mammoth is the lone remaining undefeated team in the National Lacrosse League.

"We always have great battles with Calgary," said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley.

Of the last six regular-season head-to-head games, five have been decided by just one goal. In 2011, Colorado won two of the three meetings in the regular-season. But, Calgary eliminated Colorado from the playoffs, just as it did in 2009.

"It's an unbelievable rivalry that's developed over the years," said Dave Pym, head coach for the Roughnecks.

The rivalry has carried into the 2012 season. The Mammoth and Roughnecks first met on January 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Alberta. The Mammoth trailed 12-9 in the fourth quarter, but rallied to send the game to overtime. Colorado forward Gavin Prout scored the game-winner 45 seconds into the extra frame.

With an unblemished mark, does the team feel any added pressure?

"We're not thinking about anything other than the next game, and that's credit to our guys," said Hamley.

The Mammoth defense, which has yielded just seven goals in each of its last two games, now boasts the league's second-best goal-against-average; the offense is tops in the NLL.

Colorado looks to extend its franchise-best start to a season on Friday night. A victory would give the Mammoth a three-game lead over the Roughnecks. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
