Washington Stealth News Release

Everett, Wash. - The Washington Stealth has announced today the signing of free agent goaltender Matt King, pending approval by the National Lacrosse League. King joins the Stealth following news that starting goaltender Tyler Richards will be unable to play this weekend due to injury.

King, 30, has played 11 seasons in the NLL, most recently with the Colorado Mammoth in 2011. King also played five seasons with the Calgary Roughnecks (2002-2004, 2009-2010), winning championships in 2004 and 2009. The Victoria, B.C. native had a career season in 2009, posting a 10.38 goals against average and .770 save percentage in 422 minutes during the regular season. His postseason performance was even more impressive, playing every minute en route to the title with a 7.67 goals against average and .832 save percentage.

"We're very pleased that a goalie the caliber of Matt King was available," said Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall, who won an NLL title with King as the head coach of Calgary in 2004. "He's been a quality goaltender in this league for years and I have complete confidence that he can step in and be effective if and when he's called upon."

King will be the second goaltender on the roster along with rookie Chris Seidel. Richards was injured during last week's game in Rochester and will be reevaluated next week.

In order to make room for King on the Stealth's active roster, the team also announced the temporary release of defenseman Kyle Sorensen, who has missed the last two games due to injury. Sorensen will be re-signed to the Stealth roster when healthy.

"With a flurry of injuries, we were forced to make a temporary roster move," added Hall. "We expect Kyle to be back soon and when he's healthy, he will be back with the Stealth. He is an assistant captain and a highly valued member of this organization. We look forward to his return."

Sorensen understands the move and as you'd expect from a captain, is willing to do what's best for the team. "With the number of injuries we have, we need the roster space. Of course I want to be in the lineup, but if I can't be on the floor this is a way that I can help the team."

The Stealth plays host to the Minnesota Swarm on Friday night at the Comcast Arena at Everett. Tickets for the big West Division match-up are on sale now and available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
