Knighthawks Shoot for .500 as They Visit Rock

(Rochester, February 24)... The Rochester Knighthawks will travel to play the Toronto Rock tonight at the Air Canada Centre at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com.

Head to Head: The Knighthawks play the defending champion Rock for the second time this season. Rochester lost the first meeting, 13-11, on January 27th at the Air Canada Centre. Rochester leads the all-time series with a 19-15 record.

Player Moves: Rochester moved Joel White and Travis Hill to the physically unable to perform list. The Knighthawks have also placed Jamie Batson back on the practice squad.

Scouting the Knighthawks: The Knighthawks (3-4) enter the game in third place in the East Division after defeating the Washington Stealth 15-12 Saturday night. Rochester was led by Craig Point and Mike Accursi, who each had a three-goal and two-assist evening. Joe Walters (1+3) and Cory Vitarelli (1+3) also had solid performances for Rochester. Matt Vinc made a season-high 50 saves in the team's second straight home win. Vinc is sixth in the NLL with an 11.96 goals-against average. Brad Self extended his team-high assist streak to seven games. Defenseman Ryan Cousins had an assist in his Knighthawks and 2012 debut. Knighthawks Mike Kirk, McCready, Powless and Cody Jamieson have been selected to play in the 2012 NLL All-Star Game on Saturday night in Buffalo. Jamieson is third in the league with 38 points.

Knighthawks News and Notes (Page 2) Accursi on Fire: Mike Accursi has 14 points (5+9) in his last three games and has moved into fifth place on the NLL's point list.

The captain is named a captain: McCready was named an alternate captain for the second straight season. He will also make his second straight start in the NLL All-Star Game and third appearance in the prestigious event. At the 2011 All-Star Game, he also served as an alternate captain. The Knighthawks' defenseman currently leads the team with 43 loose balls. On Saturday, McCready scored three times, while collecting one assist and seven loose balls en route to Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Scouting the Rock: Toronto (3-3) fell out of first place last Saturday after suffering a 14-8 loss to the Philadelphia Wings. Garrett Billings led the offense with three goals and one assist, while Josh Sanderson chipped in three assists. Billings is fifth in the NLL with 22 assists, while Sanderson is one assist behind in sixth place. Before Friday's game, Toronto will retire the number 29 worn by Bob "Whipper" Watson. The contest is the first of a four-game homestand for the Rock. Sanderson, Billings, Sandy Chapman and Matt Roik will represent the Rock at the 2012 NLL All-Star Game Saturday in Buffalo.
