Philadelphia Wings Can't Overcome Slow Start

February 24, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings were unable to overcome a four-goal deficit, falling on the road 12-10 to the Edmonton Rush Saturday Night.

Trailing the Rush 11-7 with about five minutes remaining fourth quarter, the Wings got goals from Kevin Crowley, Brodie Merrill and Drew Westervelt in less than two minutes to pull within one. However, a late penalty call on the Wings left the defense shorthanded and led to Edmonton's game-clinching goal.

The Wings also faced a four-goal deficit in the first half as Edmonton jumped out to a 5-1 lead, before the Wings caught fire with three unanswered goals to cut the lead to 5-4 at the half. However the Wings struggled to get over the hump in the second half, several times cutting the lead to one, but never pulling even.

With the loss, the Wings head to the All-Star break with a 4-3 record, tied for tops in the National Lacrosse League's East Division with the defending champion Toronto Rock.

Leading the way for the Wings tonight were Kevin Crowley with three goals and an assist and Drew Westervelt with two goals and two assists.

The Rush were paced by Zach Greer with three goals.

Following All-Star Weekend, the Philadelphia Wings will face off against the Rochester Knighthawks at Wells Fargo Center on March 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets for all Wings home games are available by phone at 215-389-WING or online at WingsLAX.com.
