Quad City Mallards News Release
QUACK TRACKS
Tight
The Mallards suffered back-to-back one-goal losses on the road last Friday and Saturday after starting their sixth stretch of three games in three nights with a 5-2 win last Thursday in Bloomington.
Up and Down
The Mallards dropped their last two games after going unbeaten in regulation (2-0-1) in their prior three games. With last Friday's loss to Bloomington, the Mallards missed the opportunity to move above .500 for the first time since a November 24 win over Tulsa lifted their record to 6-5-3.
Playoff Race
The Mallards are two points behind the Arizona Sundogs in the race for the eighth and final CHL playoff spot. The Mallards, who have a game in hand on the Sundogs, last Tuesday dropped their first meeting of the season with Arizona 3-2 in a shootout.
Breaking Loose
Last Thursday in Bloomington, Mike Stinziani notched the first Mallard hat trick since Jeremy Boyer scored three times in the final game of last season. Stinziani also tied a team single game season high by recording four points last Thursday. In addition, the Mallards equaled a team season high by scoring five goals last Thursday.
Home and Away
The Mallards return home for back-to-back games this weekend after going 1-2-0 on last weekend's road trip.
3M Line
Members of the Mallards' line of Hellyer, Stinziani and Mickey Lang scored six of the Mallards' nine goals last weekend. Lang is in the midst of a six-game point-scoring streak (4-3-7), Hellyer has scored in three straight games and recorded points in four in a row (3-1-4) and Stinziani has produced five points in his last three games (3-2-5). In 36 games so far this year, Lang has matched the goal (19), assist (21) and point (40) totals he posted in 61 games all of last season.
Leaders
Lang leads the league in shorthanded goals (3) and is tied for sixth in goals and points. Among rookies, Hellyer and Stinziani are tied for fourth in points (26). Matt Duffy, who has collected four assists in each of his last two games and piled up seven points (one goals and six assists) in his last five games, is tied for fourth among defensemen in assists (17) and tied for fifth in points (21). Neil Conway ranks sixth in save percentage (.913) and seventh in goals against average (2.51) while John Murray ranks third in minutes played (1197:22).
