Quad City Mallards News Release

QUACK TRACKS

Bloomington Battle

The Mallards earned three of a possible six points in their three-game series with Bloomington last weekend. Quad City pocketed one point for last Friday's 5-4 shootout loss in Bloomington, fell 6-3 at home on Saturday night and avoided a sweep by coming from behind for yesterday's 5-3 win at the i wireless Center.

Home Sweet Home

The Mallards this weekend complete a four game homestand and a stretch that will have seen them play six out of seven games on home ice. The Mallards have gone 2-2-0 at the i wireless Center. Quad City has dropped its two Saturday night home games and won its two Sunday home tilts.

The Mick

Mickey Lang (5-3-8) scored twice yesterday to move into a tie for the team goal-scoring lead with Obi Aduba. Lang scored three times in his last two games and produced five points (three goals and two assists) in three games on the weekend.

Leading the Way

Patrik Levesque (4-6-10) yesterday produced his second three-point game of the season (one goal and two assists) and has now enjoyed multiple point nights in four of the Mallards' first six games. Levesque is tied for sixth in the league in points.

Obi One

Aduba (5-2-7) yesterday scored his second game winning goal in as many Sundays. Aduba snapped a 3-3 tie with 2:42 left in the third period yesterday after converting the decisive penalty shot seven days earlier in the Mallards' 5-4 shootout win over Wichita. He has recorded points in four straight games (4-1-5).

Instant Impact

Mike Hellyer (0-3-3) and Mike Stinziani (1-2-3) both collected three points and posted plus/minus ratings of +4 last weekend while playing their first three games after being activated last week, Immigration delays kept Hellyer and Stinziani from joining the Mallards for the opening weekend of the season. The duo teamed with Mickey Lang to form a "3M" line that totaled four goals and 11 points over the weekend.

600 Club

Shayne Toporowski (1-3-4) reached the 600 career point plateau last Friday by assisting on Patrik Levesque's tying goal at 18:22 of the third period. Toporowski, who added an assist yesterday after missing Saturday night's game with a lower body injury, has now totaled 256 goals and 345 assists in 960 career games.

Busting Loose

The Mallards established season highs by scoring five times in total, ripping off four third period goals and taking 40 shots in yesterday's win. The Mallards yesterday also outshot the opposition- Bloomington registered 34 shots- for the first time this season.

Late Show

The Mallards have provided plenty of late-game fireworks over the first two weekends of the season. Quad City has gone to overtime three times in its first six games and twice in three nights over the weekend scored vital goals late in regulation. With last Friday's 11-round shootout loss the Mallards' shootout record on the season dropped to 1-1. Yesterday's late regulation winner from Aduba helped deliver the Mallards' first regulation win. Levesque tied Friday's game at four with 1:38 left in regulation and insured the Mallards' earned a point.

Special Teams

The Mallards scored their first two power play goals of the season last Friday in Bloomington. Quad City ranks ninth in the league on the man advantage (9.5 percent) and sixth on the penalty kill (78.6 percent).

Head-to-Head

The Allen Americans make their first visit ever visit to the Quad Cities this weekend. The Mallards split a pair of games in Allen last season. The two clubs did not meet in 2010-11, the Mallards' first Central Hockey League season. Defenseman Derek Matheson- who scored his first Mallard goal shorthanded last Saturday night against Bloomington- this weekend will face the Americans for the first time since being traded by Allen to the Mallards just over a week ago.
