QUACK TRACKS

Decembrists

The Mallards rebounded from last Tuesday's 4-2 loss to last place Bloomington by defeating Wichita 5-4 in a shootout last Friday to improve the Flock's record in December to a league-best 8-2-1.

QUACK TRACKS

Tight

The Mallards are tied with Rapid City for third place in the tightly packed Turner Conference. The top six teams in the conference are separated by just seven points. The Mallards are four points behind first place Fort Wayne and just one point behind second place Evansville. Only two points separate Quad City from fifth place Missouri, while the gap between the Mallards and sixth place Dayton in just three points.

Welcome Home The Mallards have gone 2-1-0 in the first three games of a five-game homestand- their longest homestand of the season. With last Friday's win the Mallards improved to .500 on home ice (5-5-1) this season.

On the Road The Mallards will return to the road when they visit Dayton on New Year's Eve. The Mallards have won six of their last seven road games. The Flock is 9-5-0 on the road this season and is tied for the league lead in away wins.

Workin' Overtime

By defeating Wichita last Friday, the Mallards improved to 2-1 in games decided in the shootout this season. Quad City is also now 5-1 in games settled in either overtime or the shootout.

Power Play The Mallards now rank fourth in the league on the power play (21.1 percent) after going 1-for-17 on the man advantage over their last three-plus games.

Penalty Kill

The Mallards have dropped to eleventh in the CHL in penalty killing (79.6 percent) after giving up two power play goals in each of their last two games. The Flock's foes have gone 4-for-9 on the power play over Quad City's last two games and 8-for-22 over Mallards' last four-plus outings.

Best Shot The Mallards remain the league leaders in shots on goal (37.1 per game) and have taken better than 40 shots in a game ten times this season.

Little Big Man Brandon Marino (15-18-33) ranks third in the CHL in goals, is tied for fifth in points, is tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals (3) and is tied for third in power play goals (5). Marino leads the Mallards in goals, assists, points and shorthanded goals and is tied for the team lead in power play goals. Marino has recorded points in four straight games (3-2-5) and in ten of his last 11 outings (7-7-14).

Brown Out, Take 1

Jared Brown (10-17-27) has collected points in each of his last four games (3-4-7). Among CHL rookies, Brown is tied for second in assists, ranks third in points and is tied for third in goals.

Brown Out, Take 2

Last Tuesday goaltender David Brown, who split the start of the campaign between the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) and Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL), made 26 saves while suffering a loss to Bloomington in his first start this season for the Mallards. Brown last Friday rebounded to stop 26 shots- and five more in the shootout- on the way to a win over Missouri.

Auld Lang Syne Mickey Lang (4-2-6) returned to the Mallard lineup last Friday against Missouri after missing five games while on injured reserve and scored once in regulation and provided the winning goal in the shootout.

Head-to-Head

The Mallards this season have gone 1-1-0 against Rapid City and have posted a record of 2-2-0 against Dayton.

Ins and Outs

Last Tuesday David Brown was reassigned to the Mallards by Abbotsford and goaltender Brad Fogal was waived. Fogal was re-signed to a five-game contract last Thursday. Lang was activated from 10-day I.R. last Friday while defenseman Justin Hofstetter was granted leave by the CHL. The Mallards today announced that forward Tyler Sheldrake has been traded to the Tulsa Oilers in exchange for future considerations.
