Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 14, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced Fox Sports Radio 1230 WFXN-AM will team with the Mallards as the club's new radio home and will carry the bulk of the Mallards' games throughout the 2011-12 season.
"We're very excited about working with Fox Sports Radio 1230 to bring Mallards Hockey Presented by Genesis Power Sports Performance to the fans of the Quad Cities," said Mallards vice president of sales and marketing Brad Hoffman. "With its strong local sports coverage and a 24-hour sports lineup, WFXN-AM is a great home for Mallards game broadcasts."
Fox Sports Radio 1230 will kick off its coverage of Mallards Hockey Presented by Genesis Power Sports Performance with the Flock's season opener against the Rapid City Rush on Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. A limited number of the Mallards' 66 regular season games will not be broadcast on 1230 AM and will air only online because of conflicts with University of Illinois basketball and football broadcasts. Audio webcasts of those games- and all Mallards action- will be available via CHL-TV at chltv.neulion.com . Brian Lavelle returns to provide play-by-play for Mallards action for a third season.
"We're excited to have the Mallards in our lineup," said Fox Sports Radio 1230's Ron Evans. "We're always happy to support Quad City sports."
The full broadcast slate will be updated throughout the campaign and will be available at myqcmallards.com.
It was also announced today that Mallards coach and general manager David Bell will join The Morning Report with Dan Kennedy on WOC Newstalk 1420- WFXN's sister station- every Friday morning throughout the regular season at 8:35 a.m. to provide a weekly update on all things Mallards.
The Mallards will see preseason action this weekend at the i wireless Center in the Ice Breaker. The Mallards will meet Evansville at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the opener of a hockey doubleheader- after which the Bloomington Blaze and Missouri Mavericks will close out the twin bill. The Mallards and Mavericks will meet the following afternoon at 2:00 p.m. after taking part in a combined open practice at 12:30 p.m.
