Bees Close Preseason with 4-1 Victory Over Laredo

LAREDO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees closed preseason play with a 4-2 victory over the Laredo Bucks on Friday night. The Bees were paced by strikes from Brandon Campos, Dan Nicholls and Adam Stuart.

The Bees struck first after Brandon Campos deflected a Zac Pearson shot behind Laredo goalie Torrie Jung, for Campos it is his second of the preseason. James Isaacs earned the secondary assist on the Bees first strike. While technically an even strength goal the Bees scored right as a Laredo penalty expired.

After one period of play John Murray was relieved by B.J. O' Brien who made his Bees debut. Murray turned away all seven shots he saw.

Laredo got on the board early in the second period after the Bees deflected to puck into their own net. The goal was credited to Todd Griffith for the Bucks.

The Bees grabbed the lead right back less than two minutes later as Dan Nicholls struck on the power-play for the Bees. Charles Fontaine shoved the puck towards the net and after Jung turned away the first chance Nicholls grabbed the loose puck and rocketed a shot top corner.

The Bees increased their lead to 3-1 as Adam Stuart went coast to coast during a four-on-four after an outlet pass by Charles Fontaine. For Stuart it was his first the preseason and for Fontinae his was his second helper of the evening.

The Bees added a fourth strike late in the third period as Mark Magnowski scored his first of the preseason with assists to Dan Nicholls and Adam Stuart. The goal came after a scrum in front of the net.

The Bucks would get one goal back late the third period as David Inman found the back of the net off a rebound.

B.J. O'Brien made 14 saves in net for the Bees in two periods of work.

Next up for the Killer Bees is their home opener against the Missouri Mavericks on Friday, October 21st at the State Farm Arena. The Bees will play host to the Mavs on Friday and Saturday to kick-off their ninth CHL season.
