Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (November 17, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed left wing Jake Riddle and have placed left wing Phil Axtell on ten-day injured reserve.

Riddle, 27, spent the bulk of the last two seasons with the Tulsa Oilers. Last year the Minneapolis native scored 19 goals, totaled 38 points and piled up 198 penalty minutes in 62 games.

"The need for a touch more grit and secondary scoring made Jake Riddle an attractive addition," said Mallards Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Frank Anzalone. "He historically has been a tough player to play against, kills penalties and chips in with key goals."

Over his first six pro seasons the 6' 1", 212-pound Riddle scored 88 goals and notched 181 points in 328 games while also spending 1152 minutes in the penalty box. Riddle was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the eighth round of the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the two hundred thirty-ninth overall pick.

Riddle first joined the Oilers early in the 2008-09 season after starting that campaign in England with the Hull Stingrays, for whom he also skated in 2007-08. He spent most his first three seasons in the ECHL, where he suited up for the Wheeling Nailers, Peoria Rivermen, Augusta Lynx, Phoenix Roadrunners and Utah Grizzlies. Riddle also played six American Hockey League games with the Portland Pirates in 2005-06.

Before turning pro Riddle enjoyed a four-year junior career in the Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Tri-City Americans, Saskatoon Blades and Lethbridge Hurricanes.

A sore left knee has sidelined rookie Axtell, who has played in seven games this season.
