Mallards Sign Brown, Akins Granted Leave

MOLINE, Ill. (March 17, 2011)- The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced that they have signed forward Jared Brown and that forward Drew Akins has been granted leave by the CHL.

Brown, 25, finished his collegiate career at Northern Michigan earlier this month. The Gardner, Kansas, native scored two goals and totaled ten points in 30 games this season. Over four years as a Wildcat, the 5' 10", 195-pound Brown scored 32 times and recorded 83 points in 155 games. Last season, Brown produced nine goals and 23 points in 41 games while helping NMU to the school's first NCAA tournament bid in a decade.

Brown spent four seasons in the junior ranks- with the North American Hockey League's Lone Star Cavalry and Santa Fe Roadrunners and the United States Hockey League's Lincoln Stars- before heading to Northern Michigan.

Akins, 25, has skated in four games since signing with the Flock earlier this month.

The Mallards return to action at home tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. Tonight will be "Thirsty Thursday" as fans attending the Mallards' match-up with Wichita will be able to take advantage of discounts at i wireless Center concession stands to purchase $2 drafts and $2 soft drinks.

The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the first period.
