Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (March 1, 2014) - The Quad City Mallards have teamed with John Deere to bring Mallards players to Quad Cities area elementary schools and community centers for a series of youth street hockey clinics, the Mallards announced today.

Mallards players will not only instruct area youth in the basics of hockey and play street hockey with children but will also emphasize the importance of physical fitness and an active lifestyle.

The first clinic will be held Monday at Lourdes Catholic School in Bettendorf from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Mallards will then visit Riverdale Elementary in Port Byron for another clinic from 1:00 to 2:15 on Tuesday.

"We've had the opportunity to work closely with John Deere on a number of community initiatives this season and this is one that we're especially excited about," said Mallards president Bob McNamara. "We're looking forward to bringing our players to schools and youth centers throughout the area and enabling them to share their love of the sport of hockey with students and demonstrate the benefits of being physically fit."

John Deere Mallards Youth Street Hockey Clinics are just the latest project on which the Mallards have partnered with John Deere and just one of a slate of school initiatives in which the Mallards have taken part this season. Thanks to John Deere the Mallards have made 2,000 tickets to the team's March 22 John Deere Community Night game against Missouri available for just $5. In cooperation with the United Way, Mallards players have also mentored students on a monthly basis at five area elementary schools this year.
