Mallards Go for Series Win, First-Half Championship Wednesday
July 6, 2011 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
EAU CLAIRE, WI - The Madison Mallards will take on the Eau Claire Express Wednesday in the series and first-half finale at 6:35 p.m. at Carson Park. After falling in ten innings Tuesday, the Mallards lead the Express by only one game, but a victory Wednesday would secure a first-half championship for the Ducks, who have not made a playoff appearance since 2008.
Looking to get the Mallards to the playoffs will be starter Chris Lamb (Davidson). Lamb has made one start in two appearances for Madison, compiling a 2.57 ERA in seven innings pitched. Lamb has not faced Eau Claire this season, and the Mallards have won both games in which he has made an appearance.
On the hill for the Express will be Logan Ehlers (Nebraska). The freshman left-hander has made only only appearance for Eau Claire, and it came in relief in the team's 7-3 win over Wisconsin Rapids on July 2.
After being out-hit 15-6 Tuesday, the Mallards' league-leading offense looks to get back on track as well.
Nate Theunissen (Central Michigan) has quietly tied Jordan Owen (Tennessee - Martin) for the team lead in batting average, hitting at a .346 clip. Also leading the way for the Mallards as of late has been Matt Juengel (Texas A&M), Zack Powers (Florida), and Justin Parr (Illinois), who have all hit over .300 in the last seven games.
Following Wednesday's game, the Mallards will travel to Green Bay to take on the Bullfrogs at Joannes Stadium to start the second half of the season.
