Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers Baseball club finished out their rough first half of the 2011 campaign today in a somber fashion, falling to the Alexandria Beetles, 13-4. The Honkers' 9-23 record, was the worst in the Northwoods League North Division, and higher than only one team in the South Division, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

Eric Davila (Fr, Sonoma State) made his second start of the season earning the loss. Davila pitched three innings, allowing eight runs on six hits before yielding to three pitchers out of the Honkers bullpen. For the second night in a row, Kevin Johnson (So, Illinois) was forced to leave the game after one inning due to a pitch count of exactly 35. Johnson was able to pitch on no days rest because he only threw 35 pitches.

Austin House (So, New Mexico) pitched three solid innings of relief, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out two, before handing the eighth inning off to D.J. Snelten (Fr, Minnesota). Snelten pitched a scoreless inning for the Honkers, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State) had another productive day at the plate, driving in three runs with a double in the third inning, to put the Honkers in the lead for a brief moment.

The Honkers will get a clean slate come tomorrow's game against the Mankato MoonDogs. The MoonDogs were the first half champions of the North Division with a record of 23-10. The Honkers will have Jeff McKenzie (So, Delta College) on the mound against the MoonDogs tomorrow, McKenzie is making his second start of the season.
