MALLARDS NOTES

Last Game

Justin Danforth scored two goals and added an assist as the host Cincinnati Cyclones held off the Mallards 4-2 Saturday.

Drought

The Mallards have suffered five straight losses, their longest regulation losing streak of the season.

Double Dip

The Mallards dropped back-to-back games in Cincinnati last weekend. A 6-1 setback Friday preceded Saturday's defeat. The Mallards have now played consecutive games against the same foe six times. They have swept two of those series, dropped both games three times and earned a split once.

Busy

The Mallards last week played three games in three days beginning with a 2-1 loss to the Indy Fuel Thursday in Indianapolis. They will play three times in as many days a total of nine times this season. They have now gone 1-2-0 when playing for the third time in as many days.

Homecoming

The Mallards tonight play at home for the first time since November 24.

On the Road

The Mallards went 2-7-0 over a stretch of nine straight road games that ended Saturday.

Central

The Mallards have gone 2-6-0 over the first eight games of a run that will see them play 14 straight and 20 of 21 against division opponents.

Red Light District

The Mallards rank twenty-seventh in the ECHL in goals per game (2.2).

Outside the Box

The Mallards average the fewest penalty minutes (9.1) per game in the ECHL.

Quick Strike

Matt Pohlkamp scored just 29 seconds into the third period Saturday. That was the earliest the Mallards have scored in a period this season.

Fantastic Four

Chris Francis collected points (two goals and two assists) in each of his first four games of the season before being held off the scoresheet for the first time Saturday in Cincinnati. Francis, who signed with the Mallards' November 27, missed the first nineteen games of the campaign after suffering an upper body injury in the offseason. Francis finished last season tied for the Mallard lead in points (60).

Debut

Defenseman Kenney Morrison picked up his first Mallard point- an assist- Saturday in Cincinnati. Morrison made his Mallard debut last Thursday against the Indy Fuel after being loaned to the Mallards by the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves last Wednesday.

Helping Hand

Willie Raskob (1-16-17) picked up an assist Saturday and is now tied for third among rookies in assists and is tied for sixth among defensemen.

Warning Sign

Sam Warning scored his team-leading twelfth goal Saturday in Cincinnati.

All Hartz

Eric Hartzell made his first Mallard start Saturday night. He stopped 25 shots in the loss to the Cyclones. Hartzell, who signed with the Mallards last Wednesday, made his debut for the club when he entered Friday's game in Cincinnati at the beginning of the third period in relief of starting goaltender C.J. Motte.

Wild Life

After signing a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Iowa Wild Monday, Motte posted his first career AHL shutout Monday night by making 34 saves as the Wild defeated the Cleveland Monsters 3-0. Motte, who played for the Wolves earlier in the season, has now gone 2-1-1 with a 1.73 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in four AHL games this year.

Milestones

Tristan King has 94 career goals.

Special Teams

The Mallards have killed off their opponents' last ten power plays. The Mallards allowed a shorthanded goal for the sixth time this season when Cincinnati's Eric Knodel scored during a Mallard power play Saturday. The Mallards rank eleventh in the ECHL in penalty killing (83.8 percent) and eighteenth on the power play (15.6 percent).

Head to Head

The Mallards dropped their first two meetings of the season with the Komets. The two teams will meet nine times this year. Wednesday's game will be the first between the two clubs in Moline this season. The Mallards have gone 54-59-11 all-time against the Komets.

Ins and Outs

The Mallards yesterday signed forward Triston Grant to a standard player contract...The Mallards yesterday traded forward Garrett Klotz to the Jacksonville Icemen in exchange for financial considerations.
