Madison Mallards News Release

GREEN BAY, WI - The Madison Mallards were defeated 10-0 by the Green Bay Bullfrogs at Joannes Stadium Friday night. The loss is the fourth in seven games against the Bullfrogs, and it was the second time that Green Bay has shut out the Mallards this season.

The game had the makings of a pitcher's duel early on, as the score was tied at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, but that is when Green Bay's offense would come alive.

The Bullfrogs scored all ten runs in four straight innings, including back-to-back four-run frames in the third and fourth, putting the game out of reach early. The Mallards did not help their case either, walking seven hitters and committing four defensive errors.

Green Bay was led by Ty Filliben (Samford) and Jacob May (Coastal Carolina). Both hitters went 1-for-4, but scored twice and drove in two runs. Mitch Haniger (Cal Poly) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI, Joe Betcher (UIC) had two hits and scored twice, and Nik Balog (University of San Francisco) scored twice and drove in two runs as well, contributing to the double-digit win.

The Mallards' offense did not take advantage of their opportunities the way Green Bay did. Despite being out-hit by only one, Madison had a tough time stringing hits together and finding timely at-bats. Matt Juengel (Texas A&M) and Josh Parr (Illinois) led the Madison offense, but were the only hitters to tally more than one hit. Zack Powers (Florida), Jordan Owen (Tennessee - Martin), and Michael Handel (Minnesota) also collected hits in the loss.

Madison's starting pitcher, Estevan Uriegas (Texas A&M), did not have his best stuff on the mound Friday. Uriegas pitched three complete innings, gave up four runs (three earned) on only two hits, and also walked four batters. With the loss, Uriegas moves to 0-1 on the season.

Andy Hunter (Gonzaga) picked up the win for the Bullfrogs, moving to 2-2 on the season. He pitched six innings and allowed no runs on five hits. Hunter also did not walk a batter and struck out three. The Mallards and Bullfrogs split the two-game series to begin the second half, and the Mallards will bring their 1-1 record back to the "Duck Pond" to face the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a two-game weekend series. Game one will be a 6:05 p.m. Saturday start, and Parker Schrage (Madison College) will make his second start of the season for the Mallards.
