Madison Mallards News Release
GREEN BAY, WI - July 8, 2011. The Madison Mallards head back to Joannes Stadium for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Green Bay Bullfrogs Friday night. The game will cap a brief two-game series in Green Bay, and the Mallards would sweep the Bullfrogs with a victory.
After winning the series and second half opener Thursday night, the Mallards will be looking to continue to build on the success of the pitching staff, as well as on the clutch hitting of the offense.
Estevan Uriegas (Texas A&M) will toe the rubber for the Mallards, and will be making his second start of the season. Uriegas has not won or lost a game yet in three appearances this season, but he has an ERA of 0.96 in 9.1 innings pitched. He has not pitched against Green Bay this season, but is 2-0 in his career against the Bullfrogs with a no-decision. He last made an appearance against Green Bay on August 14, 2010 in a game that the Mallards won 11-1 at Joannes Stadium. Madison is 1-2 in games in which Uriegas has pitched this season.
Also looking to help the Mallards to a 2-0 start in the second half will be an offense that came through with some clutch late-inning at-bats Thursday. Brent Kuper (Parkland College), Andrew Barna (Davidson), and Michael Handel (Minnesota) all made significant contributions in the 4-3 win, and Nate Theunissen (Central Michigan) continued to be a catalyst for the offense, tallying three more hits to raise his team-leading batting average to .348 amongst qualifying players.
The Bullfrogs will send starter Andy Hunter (Gonzaga) to the mound Friday. Hunter will be making his first start of the season after making ten previous appearances out of the Green Bay bullpen. Through 20.2 innings pitched, he has accumulated a record of 1-2 with an ERA of 3.48 and 22 strikeouts. Hunter has made two appearances against the Mallards this season. He has a total of 4.2 innings pitched in those two games, and he has allowed only one run to the Ducks.
Following Friday's game, the Mallards will return home to the "Duck Pond" to face the the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for two games of a three-game series. Saturday's game will be a 6:05 p.m. start, and Sunday's game will be a 5:05 p.m. start.
