Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Mallards welcomed the Lakeshore Chinooks to town to open a home-and-home series with their division rivals on Saturday night. The Chinooks' pitching staff was lights out in the 3-1 win.

Lakeshore was able to scratch for a run in the top of the 1st against Mallards' starter Joel Barker (5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K). Barker and reliever Bryce Leedle were able to help out the rest of the Mallards' bullpen by completing the game themselves. Leedle matched Barker's strikeout tally while finishing out the contest. The game went quiet until the bottom of the 4th inning when Madison had two runners aboard. After a double play erased one of the runners, Chad McCann scampered home on a wild pitch from Lakeshore's starting pitcher Xander Rojahn to tie at 1-1.

Offense was hard to come by for Madison. The team only had one hit through the first eight innings of play before adding two more in the 8th inning off hard-throwing right-hander George Klassen (S, 1). The Chinooks' offensive breakthrough came in the top of the 6th frame. Back-to-back doubles down the left and right field lines were able to produce two runs and that was all Lakeshore needed to push for the win. Klassen struck out five on eight batters faced to put the Mallards away.

The Mallards travel to Kapco Park to complete their season series with the Lakeshore Chinooks tomorrow with first pitch at 5:05 PM. Game coverage can be found on the Northwoods League website under the 'Live Action' tab beginning at 4:40 PM.
