Madison Mallards News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - The Mallards fell on the road at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday night by a final score of 16-6.

Madison got off to a strong start with a lineup that did not include Josh Caron or J.J. Rollon. The offense kicked off the game with three runs in the top of the 1st. First blood was drawn on a Scott Shaw groundout that scored leadoff man Liam Moreno. Tommy Carpenter followed with a double and Christian Rivera a single. Both Carpenter and Rivera tally multi-hit games. Rafters' starter Ben Amon hit the 35-pitch limit in the inning, marking an early end of his night. Ryan O'Hara (2.1 IP, 2 H, 6 ER, 6 BB, 3 K) put together two strong innings to begin the game but then lost his command in the 3rd. The Rafters scored a touchdown plus the extra point on just three hits but walked five, hit one, committed two errors, and tossed a handful of wild pitches.

Wisconsin Rapids refused to let off the gas on offense; scoring multiple runs in each of the last three innings. They were powered by three multi-hit performers: Colin Tuft (2-3, 3 R), Cael Chatham (2-3, 3 RBI), and Aidan Brewer, who was the final Rafter on the season to have not tallied a hit against Madison. Josh Howitt entered after the 1st inning for the Rafters' bullpen and in his final appearance tossed five innings, striking out four while only allowing one run.

With Wisconsin Rapids' win, they tied the all-time Northwoods League record for regular season wins at 52 games, a record that the Rafters set in the last decade. They can break the record tomorrow with a game against Green Bay.

The Mallards return home to Warner Park tomorrow to open a home-and-home series with the Lakeshore Chinooks. Game coverage can be found on ESPN+ at 5:00 PM CT with first pitch at 5:05 PM.
