WORCESTER, Mass. - Matthew Gaudreau scored twice and Barry Almeida provided a goal and two assists as the host Worcester Railers (16-19-5) defeated the Quad City Mallards (11-24-4) 5-2 Friday night.

Gaudreau struck for the first two goals of the night. The Railers were on the power play when he tipped in the opener at 16:39 of the first period. It was during another Worcester power play that Gaudreau swept the puck home from the left wing circle at 3:14 of the second period.

The Railer lead stretched to 3-0 when Brian Bowen put the puck in the gaping Mallard net at 13:17 of the second.

Triston Grant got the Mallards on the scoreboard by pouncing on a rebound at 1:32 of the third period but Almeida would reestablish the three goal Worcester advantage on a breakaway at 5:36 of the third. Woody Hudson backhanded the Railers' fifth goal from the slot at 10:35. The Mallards' Keegan Kolesar raced in on goal alone to reduce the gap to 5-2 at 15:38, but that goal did nothing to affect the outcome.

The Mallards next play on home ice next Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
