Moline, IL-The Mallards rolled over Kansas City 7-1 on Saturday night at The MARK on the strength of four third period goals. Marty Standish captured first star honors for a second consecutive night with a goal and three assists. His linemates, Paul Cabana (two goals and an assist) and Mike Kompon (four assists) took home second and third star honors.
In the first, the Mallards jumped to a 2-0 lead thanks to Jonathan Gagnon's sixth goal of the season and Standish's third marker in his last two games. Four of Gagnon's goals have come in two games vs. the Outlaws.
The Outlaws drew within one when Bill Zalba scored 12:06 into the second. Three minutes after Zalba's goal, Cabana recorded his first goal of the night to re-establish the Mallards two-goal lead at 3-1.
The Mallards put the Outlaws away with a four-goal barrage in the third. Terry Hollinger scored his first goal of the season on the power play just 4:01 into the period. Paul Cabana would add his second of the night 1:41 later. Justin Brown scored his first professional goal off of a face-off, and Drew Otten added his second of the season to cap the scoring at 7-1.
In two games this season vs. Kansas City at The MARK, the Mallards are 2-0-0 and have outscored the Outlaws 13-3. The Mallards were a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill and have killed 16 consecutive power plays dating back to last Saturday vs. Danbury.
The Mallards are back on home ice on Friday to take on the Motor City Mechanics. The game marks the first ever meeting between the two teams. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Tickets are still available at The MARK box office or via phone at (563) 326-1111.
