Friday, December 15th - Quad City 4 at Rockford 1
The Mallards beat the Hogs 4-1 on Friday in Rockford as Don Parsons netted the 600th goal of his professional career. Parsons recorded a pair of third period goals to join Joe Mullen and Joe Burton as the only American-born players in professional hockey history to net 600 goals. Brett Pilkington and Patrick Nadeau also scored while Jason Tapp turned aside 39 of the 40 shots he faced. The Hogs took a 1-0 lead on the first period's only goal by Mike Letizia. Letizia scored on a feed from Mike Doyle after the Rockford forward dug the puck off the wall behind the Mallards net. The goal was the only shot to elude Jason Tapp in a first period where the Mallards netminder faced 25 shots. In the second, the Mallards defense tightened as the team allowed just four shots on goal. The power play went to work as well and the Mallards claimed a 2-1 lead. At 2:31 of the period, Brett Pilkington sent a pass in front that deflected off an IceHog and into the Rockford net. The power-play goal was the ninth of the year for the rookie from Calgary, Alberta. The Mallards took a two-goal lead on another power-play goal at 11:47 of the second. Pilkington fed Patrick Nadeau from behind the Rockford net and the captain netted his third goal of the year to give the Mallards a 3-1 lead. In the third, Don Parsons netted a pair of goals to secure the win. The second marker of the third period for the Mallards forward was the 600th of his professional career. Parsons scored at even strength with 5:55 elapsed in the third. Then, he drove home a shot from the circle at 10:36 with the Mallards on a 5-on-3 power play to set the final at 4-1.
