Madison Mallards News Release
Rockford, IL - The Mallards hit their stride at the perfect time in the series finale with the Rivets to blow by Rockford late on Thursday night by a score of 15-8 at Rockford Stadium.
The Rivets were able to light up the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st inning off Mallards' ace Dan Wright (5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) but the Ducks were able to score two of their own in the 2nd with Estevan Moreno's first home run of the season to tie the contest and then a J.J. Rollon single to give the Mallards the lead with two outs in the inning. Moreno finished the game just a single shy of the cycle. Rockford would tie the game in the 4th. Madison retook the lead with a four-run frame in the top of the 5th in a trip to the plate that included two doubles, one from Moreno and another from Christian Rivera.
The Rivets were able to find their groove over the next three innings at the plate. They knocked Wright out of the game in what was an anomaly of a start for the big right hander. Rockford would score six straight runs to then own an 8-6 lead after the Mallards turned the game over to Adrian Montilva (0.2 IP, 2 ER, 4 BB) and Declan Elias (W, 1-1). Rockford's run at the plate included two three-hit performances. One from center fielder Ty Crittenberger and a second from first baseman Matthew Mebane. With the Mallards trailing by two, the gears in the offense started to churn, and they churned fast. Madison explodes for seven runs in the top of the 8th inning. Seven of the first eight Mallards reached in the frame and they sifted through the entire batting order. Madison was able to push across two more insurance runs in the 9th to put away the 15-8 win.
The Mallards make their second trip of the season to Capital Credit Union Park in Green Bay to face off with the Rockers for a two-game series. Coverage can be found on the Northwoods League website under the 'Live Action' tab at 6:35 PM.
