Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters exploded in the eighth inning for seven runs, taking game one of the series 8-2 over the Wausau Woodchucks.

Starter Jeremy Neff led the way for six innings of solid pitching. Neff was hitless for 5 1/3 innings, but once he gave up his first, they kept coming. Wausau singled four times in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. Neff would finish with the two runs and four hits allowed with

The Pit Spitters scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Marshall Toole. The pitcher's duel would make its way into the eighth where the Pit Spitters would finally break through.

In the eighth inning, five straight Pit Spitters would reach base safely, chasing the Woodchuck reliever. Christian Beal scored on a wild pitch. Later the same at bat, Hunter Tabb brought in the second run. The next batter Sam Tackett singled home the third run. Ariel Garcia and Dallas Duarte both brought in runs on fielder's choices. Two batters later, Christian Beal singled home two more runs, making the score 8-2.

Joe Horoszco took over for Mitch White who pitched two scoreless innings. He struck out two batters in the ninth and got the last out on a terrific play from third basemen Sam Tackett to end the game.

The Pit Spitters conclude the season series with the Woodchucks tomorrow at 7:05 ET. There will be postgame fireworks.
