Madison Mallards News Release

MADISON, WI - July 13, 2011. The Madison Mallards will take on the Waterloo Bucks in game two of the three-game series at the "Duck Pond" Wednesday Night. Waterloo defeated the Mallards 5-2 Tuesday in game one, bringing the Mallards' losing streak to five games, which is the longest such streak the Mallards have had all season.

The Mallards will look to reverse their fortunes as they send Jonathon Crawford (Florida) to the mound Wednesday. Crawford was the starting pitcher for the Mallards in the team's last victory on July 7 against Green Bay. Although he did not pick up the victory, Crawford looked very good, getting his fastball into the upper 90s on the radar gun. He also went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs and striking out six.

Crawford (1-0, 3.00) has made five appearances this season, with two coming against the Bucks. In those two games, he pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits. He has also walked four and struck out four.

Pitching for Waterloo will be 2011 Northwoods League All-Star Chase Stevens (Seminole State Community College). Stevens is 3-3 this season with a 3.22 ERA in six starts. He has 41 strikeouts in 36.1 innings. Stevens has pitched once against the Mallards and was the losing pitcher in Madison's 7-2 victory on June 10.

The Mallards will also look to rebound defensively. The team committed five more errors Tuesday night, bringing their second-half total to 18 in six games. The team has had at least one error in nine of the last ten games, and at least three errors in seven of those nine.

Madison and Waterloo will face off once more on Thursday in the series finale at 7:05 p.m. at the "Duck Pond." Thursday will also be the Mallards' final home game before the All-Star break.

Wednesday is also MINI of Madison Garden Gnome Night. Fans can email gardengnome@mallardsbaseball.com to indicate they "Like" both the Madison Mallards and Mini of Madison on Facebook. The first 1,000 qualifying fans will receive a confirmation code to pick up their Garden Gnome at this game only.

There will also be a Food Drive sponsored by The River Food Pantry. All fans who donate a non-perishable food item will receive $1.00 off game admission.
