
Make It Eight: KeeneâÃâ¬Ãâ¢s Winning Streak Contunes As Swamp Bats Sweep Westerers

The Swamp Bats hot ways continued on Friday night as they swept the Danbury Westerners in both games of the double header, 13-2 and 3-1.
Keene again put together another offensive clinic in game one, defeating the Westerners 13-2.
Zach Lucas out of Louisville continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 3-5 with a solo home run to put him at 18-30 (.600) on the week.
Other notables in game one included Ryan Lukach's, Hartford, two run home run in the second inning and the University of Georgia's Dan Nichols' grand slam in fourth. Altogether as a team, Keene racked up 13 runs on 15 hits.
Keene got a fine start from Nick Kozlowski (2-0) who threw five shut out innings, allowing just two hits and one walk along with three strikeouts.
Jordan Simons, Louisville, came on in the sixth and seventh innings, giving up two runs in the sixth, but pitched well enough to seal the 13-2 victory.
The win, Keene's seventh straight, momentarily improved the Swamp Bats record to 18-13.
Game two go underway just about 30 minutes later, and again the Swamp Bats got a good overall team performance, defeating Danbury 3-1.
Paul Covelle (2-1) took the mound for Keene in his first start of the season and dazzled. The right-hander out of Franklin Pierce University tossed six innings, surrendering only one run on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Keene scored early in the first inning off of a wild pitch. After Danbury tied the game up in the top of the third, Keene responded in the bottom half of the frame.
JP Sportman drove in Matt Ford with an RBI double for the second Keene run and Eric Gutierrez later drove in Sportman on an RBI infield single to make the score 3-1.
James Connell came on to close things out in the ninth and got the Westerners to go down in order, earing his fourth save and securing Keene's season high eighth straight win.
The victory moves Keene's record to 19-13 on the season. The Swamp Bats will travel to Vermont on Saturday night to take on the Mountaineers. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
