
Majors Strike Down Generals in Shootout Victory

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors put up a good battle against the Oshawa Generals at home this evening. The Majors had outshot the visitors by an impressive count of 52-24, and defeated the Generals 4-3 in a shootout. As a result, Mississauga's record shifts to 9-11-0-1 on the year.
Mississauga's Cameron Gaunce opened up the scoring in the 1st period with his goal coming at 9:11 to get the home team up 1-0. The assists went to Jared Gomes and Michael Pelech.
However, Oshawa came right back in the 2nd period when Tyler Taylor connected at 16:44, with help from Calvin de Haan and Robert Kousal, to knot the contest.
The action in the 3rd period heated up, as Gomes jammed the puck into the Generals' net at 2:56 on a man-advantage with assists coming from Josh McFadden and Blake Parlett, to make it 2-1 for the Majors. Oshawa's Kory Nagy and Jeff Hayes each collected a goal at 5:16 (power-play) and at 5:43, respectively, to put the visitors up 3-2. John Tavares, Michael Del Zotto and Robert Kousal were the helpers. Then, Mississauga's Riley Brace earned his first OHL goal at 9:13, off of passes from Gaunce and Devante Smith-Pelly, to end the frame in a 3-3 tie.
After a scoreless overtime period, Casey Cizikas and Jordan Mayer each wired a shot into the Generals' net in the shootout to secure the victory. The third shooter for Mississauga was Riley Brace (no goal), and the shooters for Oshawa were Nagy and Tavares (no goals).
JP Anderson got the start in net and blocked 21 shots for the Majors while Neil Conway made 49 saves for the Generals. Mississauga went 1 for 8 on the power-play, while Oshawa finished 1 for 3. The game's three stars were Cizikas (1st), Tavares (2nd) and Brace (3rd).
The Majors finish off the weekend at home when they host the Sarnia Sting this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
