Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are a perfect three-for-three in Paint the Rink Pink games, after shutting out the Oshawa Generals 6-0 tonight at the Hershey Centre. The win improves the Majors to 36-13-4-1 on the season.
After losing three straight on home ice the Majors put an end to the slide and took the lead early into the game and never looked back. Tim Billingsley put Mississauga ahead just over three minutes into the game to make it 1-0. The veteran defenceman took the puck in the Majors zone and skated all the way down ice and fired a harmless shot that beat Oshawa goaltender Michael Zador. Just over two minutes later Riley Brace increased the Majors lead by two on the power play. William Wallen made a centering pass to Rob Flick, from there Flick passed across to Brace who put it away. The power play unit struck again before the end of the period at 13:56 to make it 3-0 for Mississauga, courtesy of Brett Flemming. Another series of smooth passes from Devante Smith-Pelly and Casey Cizikas allowed Flemming to score his first of the season with a high wrist shot that beat Zador. The Majors took the 3-0 margin into the first intermission.
Riley Brace scored his second of the game and fifteenth of the season just over two minutes into the second, to make it 4-0 for Mississauga. After a failed clearing attempt by Oshawa, Blake Parlett collected the puck and passed to Smith-Pelly who then passed to Brace from the slot to finish the play. Dustin Ekelman made it 5-0 for the Majors with his breakaway goal at 6:49. The Majors were killing a penalty and as the time wound down, Ekelman skated out of the box and took a long feed from Billingsley. Ekelman beat Zador for his ninth goal of the season. Jordan Mayer added a goal early in the third period to make it 6-0 for Mississauga and that's how it would end. JP Anderson made 20 saves and records his second shutout of the year, and nineteenth win. Michael Zador and Kevin Bailie combined for 27 saves for Oshawa, Zador took the loss.
The Majors will head to Barrie tomorrow night for a game with the Colts at 7:30 p.m. The last encounter with the Colts resulted in a 3-2 shootout win for Mississauga.
