Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs picked up a point in what turned out to be a close 3-2 shootout loss to the hometown Kingston Frontenacs Friday night.

The IceDogs struck first as Andrew Shaw netted his 9th goal of the season off a beautiful pass from Johnson Andrews to give the Dogs an early 1-0 lead. Andrews has really stepped up his game as of late by showing his physical presence and making smarter plays with the puck.

Nathan Moon followed up towards the end of the first to tie it up for Kingston. The Fronts answered again as Michael Fine scored to give his team a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The second period was scoreless as both goaltenders were on top of their game. Both teams exchanged a plethora of shots, but the two team's defensive games were stellar, and the game remained 2-1 in Kingston's favour after 40 minutes.

The third period was much the same - neither team gave up many scoring chances, until the last few minutes of the period when IceDogs captain Andrew Agozzino scored to tie the game for his team. The marker was Agozzino's 29th goal of the season, and a huge goal for the Dogs as the game was taken into overtime with a 2-2 score.

The overtime period was no different than regulation - not much offensive action occurred and the game was sent into a shootout.

Kingston scored first in the shootout, and Fronts goaltender Tyler Beskorowany flashed the leather twice on IceDogs shooters Freddie Hamilton and Marco Insam to give Kingston a 3-2 shootout victory.

The IceDogs still picked up a point in the game, while the Oshawa Generals lost 6-0 to the Mississauga St. Mike's Majors, and the Belleville Bulls lost 5-4 to the Kitchener Rangers, which provides Niagara with a smaller points gap to close in the Eastern Conference playoff run.

Niagara is back in action tomorrow as they visit the Belleville Bulls at 7:05 p.m. The IceDogs will return home to host their 3rd Annual Family Day Season Ticket Holder Skate and Skills Competition on Monday, February 15th, at the Gatorade Garden City Complex, with festivities kicking-off at 11:00 a.m. See you out there!
