Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Barrie, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors returned to the scene where their playoff run ended last season and the trip proved to be better as the Majors were victorious over the Barrie Colts 5-2. The win improves the Majors to 10-2-0-0 on the season.

Both special teams units were decisive for Mississauga in tonight's game as St. Mike's scored two power play goals and one shorthanded. The penalty kill only allowed one goal on ten Barrie power play opportunities. Justin Shugg scored twice and added an assist, while Rob Flick continued his hot start to the season collecting three points on the night for the Majors.

The Colts actually struck first just over eight minutes into the first courtesy of John Padulo. Padulo picked up the puck from centre and skated along the boards to the top of the faceoff circle and fired a quick snap shot that beat Majors goaltender Anthony Peters to make it 1-0 for Barrie. Ten minutes later Joseph Cramarossa tied things up with his third goal of the season for Mississauga. After Clint Windsor made the initial save for Barrie, Gregg Sutch picked up the loose puck and got it to Cramarossa who beat Windsor. The game remained tied after the first period.

The opening ten minutes of the second period was played between the blue lines for the most part as neither team was able to amount much offensively. The second half of the period was quite the opposite as four goals were scored in a span of under ten minutes. Rob Flick put the Majors ahead on the power play when he beat Windsor with a backhander to make it 2-1. Two minutes later the Majors power play unit struck again as Justin Shugg scored his fifth of the season to put Mississauga ahead 3-1. Mark Scheifele pulled the Colts to within one after Taylor Carnevale got Peters to bite on his fake and passed to Scheifele who put it into the open side of goal on the power play. The celebrations were short lived as Casey Cizikas regained the Majors two goal cushion just seconds later after splitting the defense and beating Windsor to make it 4-2. The Majors took the lead into the intermission.

Justin Shugg added his second goal of the evening and sixth of the season at 13:42 of the third period, shorthanded to make it 5-2 for the Majors and that's how this one would end. Anthony Peters made 15 saves to earn his third victory of the year for Mississauga. Clint Windsor made 29 saves in a losing effort for Barrie. The Majors will return home to host the Sudbury Wolves tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup ticket packages are on sale now.
