Dakota Wizards News Release

BISMARCK, ND, March 22, 2010 - The Dakota Wizards were able to dispatch the Maine Red Claws 103-90 in their regular season home finale on Monday night despite being without the services of leading scorer Romel Beck, who missed the game with an injured hand. The difference in the game was Dakota getting to the free throw line 26 more times than the Red Claws, connecting on 35-of-43 attempts.

Maine's Russell Robinson scored 13 points through two quarters and keyed a 17-6 Red Claws run that helped them pull out to a 39-28 lead with a little over four minutes to play in the half. Dakota was able to respond with a 12-0 run of their own, taking the lead 40-39 behind solid play from Renaldo Major, who started in place of the injured Beck. Major scored 15 points in the first half and finished with a game high 21. Maine took a 46-44 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Both teams were hot down the stretch, with Maine shooting 62.5% and Dakota 61.1% from the field in the fourth quarter. However, the Wizards were able to connect on a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc while the Red Claws were 0-for-4 from downtown during the final frame. Maine also had trouble keeping Dakota's big men off the glass in the fourth, as they were outrebounded 8-4.

Along with Major's 21, Darren Cooper added 18 points for the Wizards. Maurice Baker also chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds for the Wizards. Robinson had a double-double for Maine, tallying 20 points and dishing out ten assists in the loss while Maurice Ager notched 15 points and eight rebounds for the Red Claws.

Dakota will hit the road and play a pair against Iowa starting on Friday while Maine will travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Skyforce on Wednesday.
