A good ole-fashion pitcher's duel broke out at Goodall Park tonight in front of 714 fans and a passionate group of kids from the Robin Hood and Kennebunk Savings night! The Mainers (11-8) have now won three in a row as an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth brought home pinch runner Drake Parker from second base with one out in the bottom of the ninth to seal a 1-0 win!
Christian Lavoie was outstanding for the Moose, throwing 7 innings of 2 hit baseball allowing just 1 walk and 4 strike outs dropping his ERA to 1.39 on the season. Lavoie was replaced by Jon Chudy and Chudy kept the pitching dominance going as he completed the final two innings with 3 strike outs along with not allowing a hit. Chudy (1-0, 1.08 ERA) has thrown 8.1 innings with 12 strikeouts allowing just three hits during that span and his batting average against is a minimal .111 the talented lefty from Pace University got the win while a great pitching outing for Valley (6-12) goes array, Anthony Elia tossed 6.1 innings allowing just one hit and fanning 3 moose batters. Joe DiBenedetto (1-1, 3.95 ERA) gets the loss after allowing the game winning hit from the bat of Caden Bailey in the bottom of the ninth that brought in Drake Parker.
The Mainers finished off their third walk-off victory in the bottom half of the ninth. The Mainer faithful go crazy and the moose dugout spilled onto the field in celebration as Caden Bailey as crushed by his teammates in celebration. Bailey finished 1 for 3 with 1 RBI as the Mainers collected 4 hits and 3 walks being patient against a stellar outing from the Blue Sox.
Matt Pagano replaced Walker Pennington who left with a lower body injury after he planted wrong on 1st base and walked off the field under his own power. Pagano finished his day 1 for 1.
The Mainers improve to 4-4 inside historic Goodall Park, and move to 4-1 in one run games and back to .500, 2-2, on Monday night's. This night was full of fireworks to end the game, just a tad-bit early as these two teams are set for a rematch on the 4th of July in Holyoke, Massachusetts!
Tomorrow night the Mainers host the Danbury Westerners (5-15) as Sanford celebrates Military Night inside Goodall Park. The Mainers host Danbury on Military Night! The festivities will include Patriot Riders, AMVETS who represent the Army, Air-Force, Marines and Navy along with accompanying color guards.
It will be a wonderful night of patriotism and baseball inside historic Goodall Park. Four branches of the United States Military will be represented including a World War II veteran and member of the 'greatest generation'.
The Mainers are honored and privileged to host our veterans!
Past, present and future military will toss-out the first pitch; United States Navy Commander Justin Long will conduct the swearing in ceremony. Army Ssg. Warren, Navy Petty Officer Riegel, Air Force Msgt. Thibodeau, and Marine Sgt. Gagne will represent our active duty and future soldiers along with Charlie Chasse and Adam Sawyer representing our Veterans!
AMVETS will conduct the national anthem. Members of the color guard will be followed shortly by our armed forces Veterans in an all-American pre-game ceremony in honor of our country and our military. Where your colors proudly, represent the red-white and blue as we honor the land of the free and the home of the brave.
